Abstract

Melioidosis caused by Burkholderia pseudomallei (B. pseudomallei) is an emerging but underdiagnosed infection in India. The disease has a varied presentation from localized infection to septicemia and is often misdiagnosed as tuberculosis. Co-infection with viral pathogens like SARS-COV-2 has been rarely reported, especially in young immunocompetent patients. Here, we report a case of co-infection of B. pseudomallei and COVID-19 in a young immunocompetent patient. He presented with symptoms of acute pneumonia. This case highlights the diagnostic challenge in a nonendemic region in the presence of viral co-infection.
