Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) is known to possess several health benefits, including hepatoprotective, neuroprotective, cardioprotective, and anticancer effects. This review will explores these potential benefits. Among the most frequently consumed beverages throughout the worldwide, green tea has a preventive effect against many diseases due to its polyphenol content. The primary bioactive polyphenol in green tea, EGCG, is known to have a wide range of bioactivities. The ability of typical phenolic compounds to scavenge free radicals has been found to be highest in EGCG. Through the suppression of oxidative damage and inflammation, it regulates molecular signaling processes and gene expression. Additionally, it blocks the production of cytokines and the migration of neutrophils in inflammatory conditions, which reduces cell death. Researchers have discovered its anticancer, antidiabetic, antioxidant, antihypertensive, anti-inflammatory, antitumor, and neuroprotective properties based on studies done in the past ten years. Particularly, via in vivo and in vitro research undertaken to examine molecular targets, its anticancer impact has been shown to have preventive and therapeutic effects in several tumor types, such as lung, breast, and colon cancer. This review focuses on/and presents the potential hepatoprotective, neuroprotective, cardioprotective, and anticancer effects of EGCG in relation to human health.
