Abstract

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) in India demonstrates marked regional variation influenced by metabolic risk, lifestyle transition, and population-specific susceptibility. This commentary highlights the growing burden of lean MASLD, the importance of visceral adiposity and cardiometabolic dysfunction, and population-specific genetic influences in Indian populations. Given the close association between MASLD and type 2 diabetes, region-specific prevention, early risk assessment, and integrated metabolic care strategies are increasingly important.
