Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) and acute suppurative thyroiditis (AST) are both rare illnesses reported in children. A 14-year-old girl presented with fever, and neck swelling followed by convulsion and altered sensorium. She had low thyroid-stimulating hormone and elevated T3 and T4 levels. Computed tomography neck showed a hypodense lesion involving the thyroid gland suggestive of AST. Magnetic resonance imaging brain demonstrated hyperintense lesions in the white matter of the frontal-parietal and occipital lobes. Here, we highlight that AST-induced hyperthyroidism may cause PRES in children.
