Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess and compare the fracture resistance of maxillary denture bases reinforced with metal mesh and glass fiber mesh at various locations. Materials and methods: Twenty-four maxillary denture bases were divided into three groups (n = 8 each) based on reinforcement method: cobalt-chromium (Co–Cr) metal mesh (Maarc, Germany), glass fiber mesh (Megazone, India), and control. Each group was further divided based on reinforcement location as full coverage, anterior half, posterior half, and midline region. The fracture resistance of control group and reinforced group denture bases was evaluated using universal testing machine. Intergroup comparison was done using the one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) test, followed by post hoc analysis. Results: The findings revealed that metal mesh has significantly (p = 0.001) improved fracture resistance (4112 kgf) as compared to glass fiber mesh (2312 kgf), irrespective of location. Among the coverage areas, full coverage with metal mesh (4112.06 kgf) displayed the highest resistance to fracture, followed by the anterior (3710.89 kgf), midline (3687.50 kgf) and posterior (3458.65 kgf) regions. However, incorporation of glass fiber mesh enhanced fracture resistance as compared to the control group. The posterior half coverage region exhibited the weakest resistance across both materials, highlighting its vulnerability to fracture. Conclusion: Within the limitations of the study, it can be concluded that metal mesh provides superior reinforcement over glass fiber mesh in enhancing fracture resistance, with full coverage offering the greatest strength. Metal mesh can be used in clinical situations with high-stress areas, which can improve denture longevity and reduce fracture-related failures.
