Abstract

Portal vein (PV) dissection is a rare but significant complication that can occur during the transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) procedure. A sharply angulated portal puncture with difficult guidewire manipulation during PV access increases the risk of PV dissection. One should be aware of the imaging features of PV dissection, allowing for on-table management to be performed. This case report describes three cases of PV dissection. Two of them were managed with stent extension, while the other required parallel TIPS.
