Defining postoperative spinal infections: navigating the inconsistencies in diagnostic definitions

Abstract

<p>The absence of a standardized definition for postoperative spinal infections (PSIs) hinders both diagnosis and research. Using a meta-epidemiological approach, we analyzed 101 studies, with most relying on predefined criteria but with a minority creating their own definition (mainly clinical). Establishing a universal definition is crucial to enhancing PSI management and facilitating research.</p>
